Section 1: General Information

Q1: What grades does Mitchell County Middle School serve?

A: Mitchell County Middle School serves students in grades 6–8, preparing them for a smooth transition to high school.

Q2: What are the school hours?

A: Classes begin at 8:00 AM and students are dismissed at 3:05 PM, Monday through Friday. The school building opens at 7:25 AM for early arrivals.

Section 2: Enrollment & Registration

Q3: How do I enroll my child?

A: To enroll your child, the following documents are required:

• A certified birth certificate issued by the county or state where the child was born. Hospital birth certificates are not accepted.
• A valid Georgia Certificate of Immunization (Form 3231).
• A Georgia Hearing, Vision, Dental, and Nutrition Certificate (Form 3300).
• Your child's Social Security card, or a signed waiver if you object to providing the Social Security number.

Immunization and health certificates may be obtained through the Mitchell County Health Department or your child's private physician.

Q4: Can students transfer mid-year?

A: Yes. Mid-year transfers are accepted in accordance with district guidelines. Please contact Trenise Sanders at (229) 321-7005 for assistance.

Section 3: Attendance & Policies

Q5: What is the attendance policy?

A: Regular attendance is essential for student success. Missing more than 5 days for any reason may place a student at risk of not passing. Unexcused absences result in progressive interventions, including parent notification, attendance support meetings, and referrals to school support services. Under Georgia law, parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring children ages 6–16 attend school regularly.

 

Q6: What should I do if my child will be absent?

A: If your child is absent, send a written excuse note or provide official documentation (such as a doctor's note, court order, or other approved documentation) when your child returns to school. Parents/guardians may submit up to 4 parent-written excuse notes per semester (including absences, tardies, and early check-outs). After that limit, official documentation is required for the absence to be considered excused.  Students are responsible for completing all missed assignments within one week of returning to school.

A:   Our students participate in free and reduced breakfast and lunch programs.  Students who do not wish to participate are able to bring their own meals.   Monthly breakfast and lunch menus are available on the school's website.

Q12: Is bus transportation available?

A: Yes. Bus transportation is available for eligible students within the Mitchell County School District. Please contact the school or the district transportation department for bus routes and eligibility information.

Q13: How does the school ensure student safety?

A: Student safety is a top priority. The school maintains secure entrances, requires all visitors to check in through the front office, has on-site security personnel, and conducts regular emergency drills, including fire, severe weather, and lockdown drills.
